Here are the official job descriptions for 2 positions at the Alumni Association.

Student Writer and Social Media Specialist

The student employee will be part of a strategic alumni outreach team requiring real initiative and excellent writing skills. He or she will have two primary responsibilities:

First is actively posting social media content for Alumni Relations. This includes:
1) Following BYU- and alumni-related stories and tweeting news of interest
2) Posting stories on the Alumni Facebook page or web site
3) Sending content to targeted Alumni audiences or locales

Second is creating content for Alumni publishing channels. This includes:
1)  Editing, proofing, and fact-checking alumni updates for BYU Magazine
2) Interviewing alumni and VIPs and writing their bios, profiles, and stories as assigned
3) Evaluating and editing RISE! story submissions

The employee will also have these secondary responsibilities:
1) Track each story and its progress (date completed, where deployed, etc.)
2) Help sell tickets to students for the annual BYU Spectacular during Homecoming
3) Complete other alumni relations projects as assigned

Requirements
* Excellent writing and editing skills
* Self-motivated and task-oriented
* Work collaboratively with other writers, and able to give and receive feedback
* Social media savvy and ability to judiciously choose content to post or tweet

The position is 20 hours a week, Monday-Friday. Applicants must submit a cover letter, résumé, and recent writing sample. Pay is $9.50/hour.

Alumni Story Writer

Creating content for Alumni publishing channels.
1)  Editing, proofing, and fact-checking alumni updates for BYU Magazine
2) Interviewing alumni and VIPs and writing their bios, profiles, and stories as assigned
3) Evaluating and editing RISE! story submissions
4) Choosing and developing content for BYU Today newsletter, Facebook, and Cougs You Should Know

Posting social media content for Alumni Relations.
1) Following BYU- and alumni-related stories and tweeting news of interest
2) Posting stories on the Alumni Facebook page or web site
3) Sending content to targeted Alumni audiences or locales

The employee will also have these secondary responsibilities:
1) Track each story and its progress (date completed, where deployed, etc.)

Requirements
* Excellent writing and editing skills; knowledge of Chicago or AP styles is helpful
* Work collaboratively with other writers, and give and receive feedback
* Social media savvy and ability to judiciously choose content to post or tweet

Desired but not required skills
* Knowledge of Chicago or AP styles, and copyediting skills
* Fundamental photography and videography know-how, including editing
