UMOCA Education Internship
Internships at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (UMOCA) are a great way to gain professional experience working for a non-profit art museum. All of our internships are department centered; offering a unique look on how each facet contributes to the operations of a contemporary art museum. Interns have the opportunity to work one-on-one with department heads to carry out specific projects, and general daily needs. Supplementary learning experiences are also achieved through assisting with public programs including exhibition openings, film screenings, art talks, and community outreach. Internships are based on semester schedules (depending on the accrediting institution’s requirements)
- Spring Semester: Early/Mid February – Early/Mid May
- Summer Semester: Early/Mid May – Mid/Late August
- Fall Semester: Early/Mid September – Mid/Late December

Education Internship Description and Requirements
Staff Member (Intern Site Supervisor): Elly Baldwin, Curator of Public Engagement
Program/Department: Education
Hours/Days per week: 6-10 hours per week + special event hours. Assistance with at least one special event per month is required.
Project/Job Description:
The Education Intern works as part of the Education team to support educational programming. Intern projects will be decided based on program schedules, intern’s interests, and best fit; these may include Family Art Saturday, tour programs, school outreach (Art Truck), and community outreach events.
Interns are responsible for various tasks for the preparation and instruction of their assigned program(s). These may include: program content development, teaching material preparation, maintenance of classroom spaces, and assistance with classroom management and program instruction.
Applicants must be able to commit to weekend dates for their assigned program(s) throughout the internship.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Enjoys working with youth and is comfortable speaking to groups of all ages
- Preferably has experience working in an educational setting and has a background in the arts
- Friendly, punctual, reliable, and self-motivated
- Able to accept direction
Additional Information:
Intern may be required to meet at alternate locations occasionally within the Salt Lake area.
This internship can also be split with the Visitor Services internship if the applicant desires, or has required hours.
