The communications intern position at the Utah Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is a temporary position. It’s ideal for advanced college students studying strategic communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or digital media. Recent graduates are also encouraged to apply. The selected applicant will work closely with DNR’s communications director and public information officers from its seven divisions.Primary Duties
Primary duties of the selected applicant will be to develop digital content for DNR’s website and social media platforms; update and improve functionality and link building of the department’s new website; develop strategic concepts and content and coordinate social media and traditional outreach efforts between the department and its divisions; design and format digital and printed materials to support ongoing initiatives and assist with traditional media relations and public involvement tasks as assigned. This person will also be closely involved in the launching of public outreach campaigns promoting Utah’s Watershed Restoration Initiative and the Great Salt Lake.

Job Requirements and Skills
Applicants should have a basic understand of the content management system, WordPress and working knowledge of Adobe software, including Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. Applicants should have a background in writing for diverse audiences and an understanding of the Associated Press style guidelines used in journalism. Additionally, he or she should have an educational understanding of strategic public relations and marketing theory and tactical application.
