Undergraduate internships in the L. Tom Perry Special Collections are designed to broadly introduce students to the fields of archives and special collections librarianship as they pursue their academic and career interests. Students who successfully complete the internship will experience the day-to-day operations of a special collections library, including collection development, outreach, and reference work, and will learn more about the professional skills and values of archivists and rare book librarians. Interns will also improve their library research skills, including primary source research skills, and will practice broad job-based skills related to archives and rare books
- The Archival Internship focuses on skills and activities related to building and managing collections of archives and manuscripts. Under the direction of curators and other special collections professionals, students will be introduced to the tools and processes which archivists use to select and make manuscript material available for research and study. They will have the chance to build finding aids and exhibits which further access to our collections.
- The Rare Books Internship focuses on skills and activities related to building and managing rare book collections. Under the direction of rare books curators and other special collections professionals, students will be introduced to the tools and processes which librarians use to curate the rare book holdings. They will have the chance to create descriptive bibliographies, research guides, and exhibits which further access to our collections.
