Job Title:                              Writer/Editor—Dean’s Office, College of Humanities
Work days/times:            Monday–Friday, morning or afternoon shift
Hours per week:               15–20 hours during Fall and Winter
Hourly wage:                     $10.00–13.00 per hour, DOE
Start date:                           ASAP
Supervisor:                         Erin Jackson, Communications Manager

Description:

Writer/Editors for the College of Humanities are responsible for creating and editing professional-quality journalistic and artistic content on behalf of the Dean’s Office and other College of Humanities organizations. The candidate in this position will collaborate with deans, department chairs, other student writers and editors, photographers, designers, and social media staff to communicate the College of Humanities message effectively.

  • Complete original writing and editing projects, including news stories, newsletters, annual reports, brochures, workflows, training modules, and marketing materials
  • Create, prioritize, and consistently refresh content on the Humanities college website
  • Interview faculty and administrative staff to create effective copy to publicize Humanities research, events, and academic offerings
  • Reposition content to maximize readership and attendance at live events
  • Write surveys and create innovative recommendations for the Communications Team’s ongoing publications calendar and strategy
  • Humanities Magazine
    • Assist the Communications Manager in producing the 28-page semiannual alumni magazine
    • Edit or coauthor articles written by deans, faculty, staff, and alumni
    • Produce calls for submissions
    • Cover an assigned beat to gather ongoing stories and audio recordings and photography at live events
    • Write original articles, profiles, live tweets, and other College content

Qualifications:

  • Experience in professional settings
  • Highly creative
  • Must have superior communication skills
  • Experience in Adobe Illustrator preferred
  • Ability to attend events independently and manage projects with very little supervision
  • Maturity: ability to take ownership of work, be dependable, and manage priorities
  • Punctuality and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to thrive working in a team environment
  • Professionalism: ability to work with deans, directors, and department chairs
