Arts & Entertainment Intern – Fall 2019

The Deseret News Arts and Entertainment department is continuously looking for talented seasonal student intern writers. 

A&E interns cover everything from movies, television, music, and entertainment technology to performing, literary and fine arts. They inform readers of breaking media and arts news as well as regularly write profiles, feature stories, and in-depth enterprise projects. Internships in the Deseret News Arts and Entertainment department is an opportunity to gain excellent experience, build a portfolio and to write about a variety of topics. 

Deseret News internships are paid ($10/hour) and last approximately four months (one semester) in duration. Full-time (40 hours per week) and part-time (16-24 hours per week) internships are available with Deseret News Features with some flexibility to work with class schedules. Internships for fall semester typically start in September and end in December (in conjunction with school semesters). Interns will work with their supervising editors to determine exact starting and ending dates, and weekly work schedules. If time off during the semester is needed, that must be coordinated well in advance with the supervising editor.

Digital News Intern – Fall

If you are an up-and-coming digital news innovator, Deseret News wants you to join our internship program.

InDepth Intern – Fall 2019

The Deseret News In-Depth and Investigative Team is continuously looking for talented seasonal student interns to assist in researching and writing investigative and in-depth stories on political and social issues. Paid interns will work alongside seasoned, full-time reporters in searching databases, mining data sources, interviewing sources and writing in-depth stories that explore solutions to pressing issues of interest to our local and national audiences. There will also be opportunities to write digital-only content for deseretnews.com. Work will be published online and in the Deseret News local and national print editions.

We are especially interested in interns who have a background in research and an interest in developing reportorial skills and writing long-form news features. We are also open to tailoring an internship experience for someone with a particular interest in data journalism or another unique expertise.
