InDepth Intern – Fall 2019
The Deseret News In-Depth and Investigative Team is continuously looking for talented seasonal student interns to assist in researching and writing investigative and in-depth stories on political and social issues. Paid interns will work alongside seasoned, full-time reporters in searching databases, mining data sources, interviewing sources and writing in-depth stories that explore solutions to pressing issues of interest to our local and national audiences. There will also be opportunities to write digital-only content for deseretnews.com. Work will be published online and in the Deseret News local and national print editions.
We are especially interested in interns who have a background in research and an interest in developing reportorial skills and writing long-form news features. We are also open to tailoring an internship experience for someone with a particular interest in data journalism or another unique expertise.
Internships are paid and are approximately four months (one semester) in duration. Internships for fall semester typically start in September/August and end in December (All in conjunction with school semesters). Interns will work with their supervising editors to determine exact starting and ending dates, and weekly work schedules. If time off during the semester is needed, that must be coordinated well in advance with the supervising editor.
