Harris Publishing’s Collegiate Internship Program aims to provide students with real-world experience and an opportunity to place original, creative work for a national publisher in their portfolio. We prioritize students who think creatively, work collaboratively, and want the latitude and autonomy to take a project and make it their own.
All interns are expected to attend weekly Editorial Meetings, and any Critique Meetings scheduled during your semester, participate in other meetings as needed, communicate your class schedule to your supervisor, be on time, meet all deadlines, and have set schedule with daily hours.
Harris Publishing will provide an Internship Supervisor, with whom you will work closely to achieve quality results. The Internship Supervisor is prepared to set “office hours” for direct instruction and critical feedback. You will also be given access to mentor-ship opportunities from industry experts across 15 national magazine titles.
By the completion of your internship, we expect you to have portfolio work you are proud of, that reflects your personal style and professional execution, and feel comfortable presenting to future employers. You will be published in one of our three boating titles and have stories published online across multiple platforms.
Editorial Writer – 20 hours per week
· Requirements: demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Word, AP Style, polite phone etiquette, feature-style interview skills
· Deliverables: two online stories per week, three-five print stories per quarter
· Must be available to attend editorial meetings, critique meetings, and publishing group meetings scheduled during the semester
