The Utah Department of Heritage & Arts (DHA) is seeking an individual passionate about history and culture, to assist with online content management. This is an excellent opportunity to gain professional experience working with public history in an environment that includes marketing, communication, and graphic design. The successful candidate will assist the marketing director in managing, and uploading content to DHA WordPress powered site, and assisting the Public Historian in increasing public engagement and historical research. This is a paid internship at $12/hr, 10-15 hours per week. Flexible schedule. This position reports to the Marketing Director. Part-time and temporary.
Job Requirements
Must-Have Skills • Proficient in using WordPress • Proficient with social media platforms • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail • Appreciation for history-journalistic research
Preferred Skills • Interest in American Western history • Knowledgeable in uploading podcast content • Journalism or history writing skills • Basic knowledge of SEO • Web analytics skills
Essential Job Functions
Assist the Marketing Director in: • Add content to the Heritage & Arts website • Increase engagement for Senior Public Historian on Facebook and Pinterest • Grow traffic to the “Speak Your Piece” a Utah history podcast and to an innovative blog series that tells the history of SLC’s Pioneer Park Neighborhood (international district) • Other related tasks as assigned
Assist the Public Historian in: • Researching and tracking cited sources • Filtering the public’s questions and comments on social media and email • Evaluating perspective podcast speakers, assisting with questions, etc.
