TECHNICAL WRITING INTERN

Juniper Systems is looking for a technical writer intern to help write, edit, and finalize the manuals and instruction sheets that help users utilize the world’s most rugged tablets and handheld computers. You’ll interview top engineers and product managers and work with graphic designers and technical support along the way. And you’ll review the documents – review them again – and put out polished final products.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Writes or edits technical documents (user guides, installation manuals, service guides, test reports, instruction sheets, etc.) for Juniper Systems products.

a. Follows the technical writing process as directed by the manager.

b. Works with project managers and the project team to accurately scope and define writing projects. This includes time
commitments for writers and subject matter experts as well as documentation purpose, requirements, expectations, and
constraints. Get an ECO going if necessary.

c. Interviews and works with engineers, technical support personnel, product managers and others as needed to gain
information about products. May attend project meetings.

d. Works with a graphic designer or mechanical engineer as needed to have graphics created and some photographs
taken.

e. Captures and edits screenshots.

f. Creates or uses existing document templates for consistency by using style guides when formatting text levels, defining
page size and margins, using footers with page numbers, placing screen captures and other graphics in documents,
creating a Table of Contents and index if needed, hyperlinks, etc.

g. Manages the review processes for all assigned documents.

h. Puts all the elements listed above together to create a final, high quality document that serves the end user and
represents the company in a professional manner.

i. Packages final documents and images as outlined in the technical writing process.

j. Creates an interactive PDF (with bookmarks and links) for online and (sometimes) print publication.

k. Finalizes ECOs and archives documents as appropriate.

2. Meets interim and final deadlines as defined by manager.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

Requires work towards a college degree in Technical Writing, English, or a related field. Candidates with a combination of education and experience can be considered. Good verbal skills are required to complement the writing communication skills. Must work well with other employees and in group dynamics.

Basic computer and software skills are required. Specifically, candidate must be proficient with the Windows OS, MS Word, and Outlook. Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Adobe Acrobat is strongly desired. Knowledge of Android and Apple operating systems is a plus since some of our products use them. Must be able to learn our company processes and writing software as they apply to the position.

Working Conditions:

Requires at least 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Some occasional overtime may be needed. Generally requires no travel.
