In an ever-changing world, CFR’s work as a leading nonpartisan resource for information and ideas about foreign policy is more important than ever. At CFR, interns do work that matters alongside smart and dedicated staff in a diverse and inclusive environment. Interns are paid a competitive hourly wage while gaining valuable experience through exposure to leading foreign policy experts. They are also offered professional development training as a foundation for future work in the field of foreign policy and international affairs. Internship opportunities are offered through the Blavatnik Internship Program and Robina Franklin Williams Internship Program.

Internship, Publications, Summer 2021

The Publications Department is involved in the editing, production, and marketing of CFR Books, Task Force reports, Council Special Reports, the Annual Report, and papers on a wide range of issues. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in a career in writing or editing.

Internship, CFR Digital, Editorial, Summer 2021

The CFR Digital, Editorial intern will assist the Editorial team with CFR’s outreach initiative. The Council’s outreach initiative aims to engage an interested and influential group of Americans from around the country and the world by providing ideas and timely, clear, and accurate information on key international issues. CFR.org, America’s foremost Internet resource for foreign policy and national security analysis, is one of the primary tools for doing so.

Internship, CFR Digital, Podcast, Summer 2021

CFR’s new podcast seeks to explain pressing IR issues to a new, wide audience. Under the umbrella of the Multimedia team, the podcast intern will prepare research briefings on episode topics, and aid in other logistical and production-related tasks.

Internship, Women and Foreign Policy, Summer 2021

The Council has a internship available in the Women and Foreign Policy program. The intern will build on his or her existing research skills, area/subject knowledge on global gender issues, and writing and editing skills. In addition, the intern will learn about the structure of a think tank.

Internship, Education, Marketing, Summer 2021

The intern will have the opportunity to assist in efforts related to marketing, research, and analytic reporting for the Education department. By actively participating in this project, this intern will gain a deeper understanding managing social media accounts across multiple platforms, developing assets for marketing purposes, and performing analytics reporting to determine ROI (return on investment) of multiple campaigns. The intern will also participate in learning how to creatively educate a diverse audience on these particular topics.

Internship, Education, World 101, Summer 2021

The intern will have the opportunity to conduct research on current foreign policy topics while helping to create a new series of educational materials. By actively participating in this project, this intern will gain a deeper understanding of several current foreign policy topics, their related debates, and a range of credible sources for accurate information. The intern will also participate in learning how to creatively educate a diverse audience on these particular topics.

Foreign Affairs magazine has an internship opening in the Editorial Department. The intern will have the unique opportunity to see the inner workings of a major magazine and foreign policy journal.
