This paid internship is anticipated to last one year (12 months). It is a part-time (28 hours per week) hourly, non-exempt position. The candidate must be currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from (within the last 12 months), an undergraduate- or graduate-degree program.  Preference will be given to history/MLIS students.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Intern will learn and be exposed to:

  • Archival research, records processing, and acquisition work – with heavy emphasis on records processing techniques that align with Church History Department standards
  • Process physical and digital archival collections received from donors in the United States and Canada
  • Quality-check and provide feedback on oral history interviews
  • Assist staff in training and managing missionaries and volunteers
  • Assist in Church History Department acquisitions

Intern will work under the direction of Church archivists and historians and will receive training and/or day-to-day direction from them.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree (or a senior anticipating graduation within 6 months) in history,  anthropology, religious studies, library science, archives management, humanities, or a related field
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and personable
  • Ability to solve complex problems and ask questions
  • Excellent reading and writing skills
  • Leadership and training experience
  • High degree of organizational skills, including scheduling and managing multiple projects
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Proficiency in a second language beneficial, but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience with historical research
