The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is hiring TEN interns in Church Magazines and General Publications Editing for Winter Semester 2019. This is a well-established, highly-recommended internship, where students have the opportunity to not only greatly improve their writing and editing skills but also to be integral members of the publications teams and to see all stages of the publishing process.
All internships are full-time (40 hrs/week) in Salt Lake City. All internships are paid DOE.
The Liahona (JOB ID 217911): The Liahona intern helps plan and develop articles for adults, youth, and children worldwide. The intern evaluates manuscripts, edits and writes articles, and participates in staff meetings and planning discussions. International experience is helpful. The Liahona staff prefers interns with international experience or interest and copyediting experience. The Ensign (JOB ID 217911): The Ensign intern has opportunities to work in all phases of magazine editorial work, including assisting in developing articles for publication by editing, writing, and rewriting, and participating in staff meetings and planning discussions. The Ensign staff prefers interns who have experience in journalistic writing for adults and copyediting. *This position requires the online application as well as a paper application. The New Era (JOB ID 217918): The New Era intern has opportunities to conduct interviews and write articles for publication, including some assignments based on his or her own ideas and experiences. The intern participates in all phases of magazine editorial work. The New Era staff prefers interns who have experience in journalistic writing for teens. Interns in this position do more writing than editing.
The Friend (JOB ID 217916): The Friend intern should have an interest in writing for children and a background or interest in creative writing. The intern creates original articles and activities; evaluates, edits, and proofreads manuscripts; and rewrites accepted manuscripts. Tasks also include researching; interviewing; adapting and creating recipes and crafts; creating content for the web and social media; and writing stories, poetry, and family home evening ideas. Interns in this position do more writing than editing.
Church Magazines Design (JOB ID 217909): The magazine design intern participates in the design and production of multiple articles for Church print and digital magazines. The intern is mentored in all aspects of design, including observation, collaboration, visualization, conceptualizing, art direction, and implementation. Candidates should exhibit excellence in editorial design communication and production for magazines and be proficient in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
Web Content (JOB ID 217910): The Web Content intern participates in the planning and creation of digital content that promotes and supports defined content strategies and initiatives. This intern helps plan and create digital content that will appear on LDS.org and other official Church channels. This intern will provide editing, writing, planning, and evaluation assistance to various sections of LDS.org. Strong editorial, multimedia, and content strategy skills are necessary.
General Publications Content Editing (JOB ID 217853): The General Publications Editing staff edits all Church publications except the magazines. These publications include manuals, handbooks, pamphlets, programs, and other documents sponsored by Church departments. Staff members also edit material that is posted on Church websites and mobile applications. Interns on the General Publications Editing staff work with writers, designers, and other editors to help produce these materials. Under the guidance of full-time editors, they work on several projects at a time and seek to ensure the highest level of quality. *This position requires the online application as well as a paper application. General Publications Production Editing (JOB ID 217856): The General Publications production editing staff works with content editors to prepare content to be published in print, web, and mobile channels using Word and HTML. Production editing is performed on many types of publications, including manuals, handbooks, workbooks, and other products sponsored by Church departments. Interns on the production editing staff work with subject-matter experts, designers, and content editors to mark up content in preparation for publication. They help to create an HTML document that can be published to multiple channels. Under the guidance of full-time production editors, they work on several projects at a time and seek to ensure the highest level of quality. *This position requires the online application as well as a paper application. Children and Youth Development (JOB ID 217919) 2 POSITIONS AVAILABLE: The Children and Youth Development intern writes content for a forthcoming Church app that will be part of the worldwide children and youth initiative being released in 2020. Candidates should have a background or interest in creative writing. The intern will write and adapt content and activities to appeal primarily to a youth audience and create content directed toward children, young adults, and parents. Duties include writing, researching and compiling content from LDS.org and other sources, and editing and critiquing the work of other interns. The best candidates will be willing to explore new ideas and think outside the box.
